The Egyptian Exhibit

I love History. If the title of the blog hadn’t clued you into that fact then I wasn’t being as obvious as I thought I was.

All through school my favourite subject was always history and except for a brief flirtation with the idea of becoming a fashion designer, it didn’t happen because I can only sew in a straight line. I always wanted to study history and become a historian. My love of books and reading about history eventually led me to my actual profession which I love as a Librarian. And yes the line from The Mummy is my absolute favourite.

Evelyn ” Look, I … I may not be an explorer, or and adventurer, or a treasure-seeker, or a gunfighter, Mr O’Connell, but I am proud of what I am”

Rick “And what is that?

Evelyn “I … am a Librarian” – From The Mummy (1999)

Movies are actually what inspired me to read about history to begin with. I watched Cleopatra (1963) with Elizabeth Taylor as a six year old and fell in love with everything about it. Cue trips to my local library and lots of books about Egypt and Rome and life long obsession with the past.

The last time I was in Sydney about a year ago I spent a couple of hours  in the Powerhouse Museum, which I love I visit when ever I can. At the time was a special exhibition on Egyptian Mummies. Anyway these are some of the pictures I took inside the the Exhibit which was about six Egyptian mummies and the mummification process and significance in Ancient Egypt. Most of these are through glass in a very dim environment so please forgive any weird reflections or shadows. Enjoy.
